Friday in Town

We went into town late this morning to get a little exercise.  Took the #8 bus down (as usual).  Met Chuck at the bus-stop and he rode with us as far as San Sebastian where he was meeting friends for lunch.  We had a nice chat riding in – and discovered another dentist (a lady that he likes) – we’ll go see her on Monday to get Mimi another check-up (in English this time).

Just walked around town for a bit, then headed to the California Kitchen to try out their food.  Corn chowder (lots of corn, red & green peppers, potatoes — very good), hamburger with fries (wow, fries were great), and a fish dish with scalloped potatoes and glazed carrots (all good).  All in all, great experience.

Went to the indoor market (one of them) which is extremely colorful.  Mimi did the shooting here – actually, she does most of the shooting.  We didn’t go downstairs, where the meat is, so no dead body pics today.  Upstairs is an unknown, but we’ll try to get up there next time we go – I think it might be pots and pans.

Walked back to the bus-stop – probably 10 or 12 blocks and rode big-blue back to the apartment.  I’ll tell you, my new pants that arrived a few days ago are already falling off.  I made a couple more holes in my belt this morning to try to hold everything together.  We are definitely getting more fit.

We have been trying to order a smaller camera (a Canon sx230 hs), but so far BHPhoto in NY is holding things up for “verification”.  It might be bacause the internet service we use is in Ecuador – not sure, but we’ll get Daneica to call them on monday and see if we can straighten it out.  We want a camera that is small and doesn’t stick out so much (make that call attention to itself).  We haven’t had any problems with thieves, but it’s good NOT to advertise our expensive stuff.  We’ll use the Nikon for studio work mostly.  And if this Canon takes good pictures, then we’ll get one more so we’re not fighting over the camera.

Speaking of which, I’ve asked Alfredo to get me pricing on some lights I’ve designed for the studio.  That was a couple of weeks ago and I’m still waiting for a quote.  Mañana!

We have a new baby next door (Javier & Laura) – a boy named David.  Mimi and I are going to shoot him next week – I’ll post the pics.  Very cute little guy – sleeps all day and up all night – parents look a bit haggard but very proud.

So, here’s some of today’s shots – compliments of Mimi.  BTW, the harp player was just sitting next to one of the churchs playing away, hoping to sell some CDs.  He was good.  The hallway photo is just a hallway we passed, and the interior is California Kitchen.

1 Response to Friday in Town

  1. Mimi & Dave,
My daughter, Katie is going to be in Ecuador during the month of January. She and a friend are doing a service/research project. They will be in Cuenca around the 25th and 26th and would love to meet up with you. Her email is kmadams@bsc.edu. She is looking forward to the trip and a reply from y’all. Hope you are both well – haven’t seen a post in awhile, hint, hint.
    Love,
    Sandy
